The Summerville Oakbrook Breakfast Rotary Club gathered for our regular weekly breakfast meeting on August 10, 2026 at Perkins Restaurant on Trolley Road in Summerville. Each week, our club comes together for fellowship, club updates, and a featured program that helps us stay connected to the needs and opportunities in our community. A big part of what makes our weekly meetings meaningful is the chance to learn from local leaders and organizations doing important work.

This week’s program featured LaQuinta West, Executive Director of Dorchester Seniors Inc. LaQuinta shared an overview of the organization’s mission and the ways it supports older adults and their families across Dorchester County. Dorchester Seniors Inc. serves as a hub for resources, services, and connection—helping seniors stay informed, engaged, and supported. During her presentation, LaQuinta spoke about the growing needs facing older adults, the importance of reliable community partnerships, and how consistent support can make a real difference for individuals and caregivers alike.
Our members appreciated hearing more about the programs and outreach that Dorchester Seniors Inc. provides, as well as the ongoing work required to meet people where they are. Presentations like this help our club better understand where service and collaboration can have the greatest impact. As part of our meeting tradition, we presented our speaker with a children’s book—something we do each week to honor our guest and to support literacy in our community. The book will be placed in the Little Free Library that our club supports behind Summerville Town Hall, helping keep books circulating and encouraging young readers (and families) to discover something new.
We’re grateful to LaQuinta West for taking the time to join us and for the work she and her team do every day. If you’d like to learn more about Dorchester Seniors Inc., their services, or ways to get involved, we encourage you to connect with the organization directly. If you’re interested in visiting our club, we welcome guests at our weekly breakfast meetings. It’s a great way to meet neighbors, hear from community speakers, and learn how Rotary serves locally and around the world.
